GIVE AWAY & HOW WE GOT STARTED

Hibiscus brooch

I am not the best blogger, It's like dieting, I have good intentions, but then life takes over ! So, just to see if anybody is actually out there, I am having a give away. ( Not a subscriber? become a new  subscriber and your name goes in the "hat" twice.)

To be eligible, either ask a question pertaining to the video, or tell me what you would like to read about in the future. For example: More about African life, more about the artisans, more tutorials, more about our products ? etc.

At the end of January 2013 I will draw the winner.

The link below is a video about how I got to Africa and how Work Of Our Hands got started.

Merry Christmas to all !

Val, I am curious if you have considered an online venue for selling... like Etsy or somewhere similar?

I hope you don't mind: I did a brief post on my blog about your work and giveaway:

(Let me know if there's anything I should change, Val.)

I enjoyed the personal stories about the artisans in the video. I think most people like to get to know who is creating the products.

Cool video. I'd really like to read more about the artists and how they create.

Interesting video! How many women are currently involved in this project? Would love to see more clay beads on this blog and where are they sold in the US?

Your video was quite informative, and I congratulate you and your
collaborative on being self-sustaining. Quite an accomplishment!

I have many students from Africa, but not many from the conditions you describe, needless to say. I'd love to read more about Africa and the women you're working with.

Here are some posts about individual artisans:

I am in Denver right now, but when back in Namibia I will interview more ladies ( we have a few men too but the women are most in need because they have responsibility of the children, plus they are much less likely to drink away the money. The dispair of extreem poverty causes a lot of drinking problems in Africa)

Val, great video! I would love to hear more about how the artisians sell there products. Are there websites, or are they just sold in the market you talked about on the video. I would love also to hear more about the life and successes of the African artisians making the jewelery, tutorials, and more about where your products are sold! Love and miss ya - Andrea Bourgoin.

You are doing such beautiful work. I found your blog through Half-Baked notions as well - she did such a nice write-up of your blog and posted a great question- such as possibly selling through Etsy or something similar - could reach many more people that way. Thank you.

I have enjoyed reading your blog. The world is a wonderful place with lots of interesting people & cultures. My husband & I went to South Africa two years ago & really enjoyed the three weeks we were there. It was not long enough. Perhaps someday we can get to Namibia. The video is so interesting & I will be following your blog from now on. Thanks for sharing!

Val,
Thank you for sharing your story. I went to high school with Lon and have been interested in your story ever since I heard about the ministry that you and Lon have in Namibia.

I would love to learn more about the ladies you're helping and are their products available for purchase in the US?

Blessings, Kathy Spagnola
